COLUMBUS, Ohio - State Rep. Michael Stinziano has been named the Ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.
This will be the third session that Stinziano, who also served as Ranking Member last session, will serve as the Ranking Member, the top Democrat on the standing House committee with jurisdiction on all legal matters.
“The rule of law and our judiciary are central to our successful democracy,” said Stinziano, a Columbus Democrat. “I look forward to continuing my work and the committee’s work in strengthening the rule of law in Ohio.”
Stinziano, who is an attorney, sponsored several pieces of legal legislation which became law last session, including HB 261, which streamlined the Ohio Court of Claims; HB 126, which made changes relating to Living Wills; and HB 243, which works to prevent domestic abuse by increasing the penalty for committing multiple acts of cruelty to animals.
He was named the 2014 Legislator of the Year by the Central Ohio Association for Justice, which represents more than 200 trial lawyers from across central Ohio.
Stinziano also teaches a course on Legislation at Capital University Law School.
In addition to serving on the Judiciary Committee, Stinziano also serves on the House Insurance Committee and the House Public Utilities Committee.
