COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Post, a respected newspaper serving central Ohio’s minority communities, has endorsed state Rep. Michael Stinziano for Columbus City Council.
In the endorsement, the Post notes that Stinziano “has a strong record in the Ohio statehouse working toward job creation and helping small businesses. He is currently the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.”
The Post endorsement is Rep. Stinziano’s third endorsement for City Council by a major newspaper in Columbus, joining previous endorsements by the Columbus Dispatch and The Columbus African American News Journal.
“I’m honored to have the support of the Columbus Post, which serves our diverse community so well,” Stinziano said. “The diversity of our community is a real strength. On Council, I will continue to work with our multicultural communities to support great neighborhoods that nurture families and enhance public safety.”
In its endorsement, the newspaper said “The Columbus Post believes Stinziano will be a good addition to City Council. Active in the Columbus community, he is known for being accessible to his constituents and promoting neighborhood safety.”
The endorsement of The Columbus Post is the 19th endorsement that Rep. Stinziano has received this year from a growing group of community organizations, elected officials, and business and labor leaders that support his candidacy for Council, including the Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council; Columbus Professional Firefighters Local 67; Teachers For Better Schools; the Central Ohio Labor Council AFL-CIO; Central Ohio Sierra Club; Franklin County Adelante Democrats; OCSEA AFSCME Local 11; the Fraternal Order of Police; The Columbus Dispatch; The African American News Journal; Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio; Young Elected Progressives; the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 6; Sheet Metal Workers Local 24; Sprinkler Fitters Local 669; Teamsters Local 284; Franklin County Young Democrats; and the Franklin County Democratic Party.
In addition to Rep. Stinziano, The Columbus Post also endorsed the candidacies of Council Members Jaiza Page, Zach Klein, Shannon Hardin, and Council candidate Elizabeth Brown for City Council.
